What Countertop Is Right for Your Kitchen?
The two most popular kitchen countertops are quartz and granite, and they’re genuinely different. The right one depends on the look you want and how much maintenance you’re willing to do.
- Quartz vs. Granite: An Honest Comparison
Quartz is engineered stone: nonporous, consistent in pattern, and it never needs sealing, which makes it low-maintenance. Granite is natural stone: every slab is one of a kind, and it handles heat well, but it needs periodic sealing to resist stains. Neither is simply better. Quartz wins on upkeep and consistency; granite wins on natural character and heat resistance.
- Other Options and When to Replace
We also install other natural stone and solid-surface tops. It’s worth replacing a countertop when it’s cracked, stained, burned, or dated, or when new cabinets leave the old top looking tired. Often, countertops and cabinets are updated together.
- How to Reach Us
Our Countertop Installation Process
- Design and Template
Once the cabinets are set, we make a precise template of your counters. Stone is cut to that template, so getting it exactly right up front is what makes the final fit clean.
- Fabrication
Your slab is cut and polished to the template, with the sink and cooktop cutouts and your chosen edge profile shaped during fabrication.
- Installation
We install the finished countertops on a return visit, placing seams thoughtfully, leveling everything, and securing the tops to the cabinets. We connect the sink and fixtures as needed.
- Seal and Final Walkthrough
We seal granite and natural stone, review the finished counters with you, and go over care and the manufacturer coverage on your material.
Countertop Materials & Edge Options
- Quartz Countertops
Quartz is nonporous, so it resists stains and never needs sealing, and it comes in consistent colors and patterns, including looks that mimic marble. It’s a favorite for busy kitchens that want low upkeep. Pair it with new Kitchen Cabinets.
- Granite and Natural Stone
Granite brings natural veining and color that no two slabs share, and it stands up to heat well. It does need sealing every so often to keep it stain-resistant, which we handle at install and explain for the long term.
- Edges, Sinks, and Backsplashes
Choose an edge profile, from a simple eased edge to a bullnose or ogee, add an undermount sink for easy cleanup, and match a backsplash to complete the look. We shape all of it to your design.

Kitchen Countertop Cost Factors & Timeline
- What Affects the Cost
- How Long It Takes
Countertops aren’t a same-day job. After we template, the stone is fabricated to size, and we install on a return visit, usually a week or two later. We’ll give you the timeline for your specific material at the consultation.

How long does a Kitchen remodel take?
Which is better, quartz or granite?
Neither is simply better. Quartz is nonporous, never needs sealing, and has consistent patterns, so it’s lower maintenance. Granite is natural, one-of-a-kind, and more heat-resistant, but it needs periodic sealing. We’ll help you choose based on your look and how much upkeep you want.
Do granite countertops need to be sealed?
Yes. Granite is porous, so it needs sealing to resist stains, typically once a year or so depending on the stone and use. We seal it at installation and show you how to maintain it. Quartz, by contrast, is nonporous and never needs sealing.
Can you replace my countertops without replacing the cabinets?
Yes. If your cabinets are solid and you like the layout, we can replace just the countertops. New tops on existing cabinets are a high-impact update on their own. We’ll check that the cabinets can support the new material first.
How long does countertop installation take?
It’s not a same-day job. We template after the cabinets are set, the stone is fabricated to size, and we install on a return visit, usually a week or two later. We’ll give you the exact timeline for your material when we measure.
Are quartz countertops heat resistant?
Quartz resists heat but is not heatproof: a very hot pan can scorch or discolor the resin that binds it, so always use a trivet or hot pad. Granite handles heat better, but trivets are still smart. We’ll go over care for whichever material you choose.
