Floors That Take Kitchen Traffic and Still Look Great

What Kitchen Flooring Holds Up Best?

Kitchens are the hardest-working floors in the house. The right material stands up to daily traffic and spills, feels good underfoot while you cook, and cleans up easily when something drops or splatters.

Between foot traffic, dropped pans, and spilled liquids, a kitchen floor takes more abuse than most rooms. Waterproof and scratch-resistant materials matter most here, so a spill or a dropped dish doesn’t leave a lasting mark.

Here’s the honest tradeoff for a kitchen. Luxury vinyl plank is waterproof, quieter, and softer underfoot, which your legs and back will appreciate during long cooking sessions. Tile, porcelain or ceramic, is extremely durable and shrugs off heat near the range, but it’s harder to stand on for long, and the grout needs cleaning. Neither is simply better; it comes down to comfort versus toughness.

Our Kitchen Flooring Installation Process

We measure the kitchen, help you compare materials and colors, and plan how the new floor meets the rooms around it. Your final price is set in writing up front.

Our in-house crew removes the old flooring and levels and repairs the subfloor. In a kitchen, a flat subfloor also matters under the cabinets and heavy appliances, so nothing shifts or cracks later.

We install your flooring and handle the transitions where the kitchen meets adjacent rooms, so an open floor plan flows cleanly rather than stopping at an awkward threshold.

We review the finished floor with you, confirm the transitions and seals, and go over care for your specific material.

Kitchen Flooring Options

LVP is a favorite for kitchens because it’s fully waterproof, comfortable to stand on, and resists scratches and dents from dropped items. It comes in wood-look and stone-look styles that pair with any cabinet color.

Tile is the most durable option and handles heat well near the range, with countless looks from wood-look planks to classic stone. The tradeoff is a harder surface underfoot and grout that needs regular cleaning in a kitchen.

In open floor plans, running the same flooring from the kitchen into the living space makes the whole area feel bigger. This matters most after a wall comes out; see Wall Removal & Resizing. Where materials change, we use clean transitions.

Why Choose Us

We install kitchen flooring on its own or as part of a full remodel, and because we handle the whole kitchen, the floor coordinates with your cabinets and layout. See Kitchen Cabinets and Full Kitchen Remodels.

We’re a licensed general contractor (ROC 365652) and master plumber (ROC 367067), bonded and insured, with about 50 years of combined experience. Your flooring carries its manufacturer warranty, and we set your final price in writing with no change orders. This is part of our full Kitchen Remodeling services.

Kitchen Flooring Cost Factors & Timeline

The main drivers are the material, the square footage, how much subfloor prep is needed, whether appliances have to be moved, and any transitions to adjoining rooms. We measure your kitchen and give you a clear written price up front.

LVP is a quick install once the subfloor is prepped. Tile takes longer, because it needs time to set and the grout needs to cure before the floor gets heavy use. After we measure, we’ll give you a realistic schedule.

How long does a Kitchen remodel take?

What kitchen flooring holds up best to daily traffic and spills?

Waterproof, scratch-resistant materials do best. Luxury vinyl plank handles spills, dropped items, and traffic while staying comfortable to stand on, and porcelain tile is the most durable of all. We’ll match the material to how busy your kitchen is.

Yes. Quality LVP is waterproof and resists scratches and dents, which is exactly what a kitchen needs. It also softens the impact of dropped dishes better than tile. For very heavy use, we’ll point you to the more wear-resistant LVP lines.

In an open layout, running the same flooring through the kitchen and living space usually makes the whole area feel larger and more cohesive. If you prefer different materials, we install clean transitions so the change looks intentional, not abrupt.

Usually, yes. We disconnect and move the range, refrigerator, and dishwasher to install the floor properly underneath, then reconnect them. Because we’re master plumbers, we handle the water and drain connections, and we coordinate a gas range safely.

LVP is a quick project once the subfloor is prepped. Tile takes longer because it needs to set and the grout has to cure before heavy use. After we measure and see the subfloor, we’ll give you a realistic schedule for your kitchen.
